Things to Do in Duncan This Summer

So far, this summer is one for the records. Wherever you are in B.C., there are lots of summer activities to get out and enjoy, and with lots of hot weather still in the forecast, there is still plenty of time to travel, swim or relax. Vancouver Island is especially beautiful during the summer months and offers many spectacular events, activities and things to see and do. As one of the premier real estate agents in Duncan, we would like to offer you a quick glimpse into some of the water and land activities available in and around the Cowichan Valley.

Water

If you are planning on moving to the Duncan area, there are many opportunities to enjoy the lakes and rivers that surround Duncan or to enjoy the ocean that surrounds the island. Maple Bay and Genoa Bay are two of the pleasure cruising areas nestled in the nearby Gulf Islands. Both of these bays offer modern marinas with all types of amenities and facilities.

If fresh water is more your thing, Lake Cowichan is one of Vancouver Island’s largest fresh water expanses. Lake Cowichan offers various water activities such as fishing, boating and house boating as well as kayaking and kayak tours. Nearby, the Cowichan River is famous for its tubing and swimming. If on a rare cloudy or rainy day, drop by the new indoor pool at the Cowichan Community Center located in nearby Duncan.

Land

The Cowichan Valley offers a plethora of cycling and hiking opportunities to satisfy all different skill levels. The city center of downtown Duncan provides visitors a great selection of local art and artisans, fashion and crafts. While in Duncan, come walk the trails at the nearby Cowichan Bay Estuary, which offers one of the island’s richest areas to watch all types of birds. If golf is your game, come and walk the greens of Duncan Meadows or one of the many other great courses that abound in the Cowichan Valley.

Festivals

Festivals abound in the city of Duncan during mid-July. The Duncan Cowichan Summer Festival offers a diverse selection of music, various parades and a myriad of children’s activities in the downtown district. Later in the month of July, the Island Folk Festival takes center stage, bringing local and touring musicians together for a weekend of fun and great music. As summer draws to a close, the Cowichan Wine and Culinary Festival which takes place in September, highlights some of the island’s finest chefs and winemakers and showcases some of the culinary delights that abound in the Cowichan Valley.

The Cowichan Valley in the heart of Vancouver Island is definitely a summer paradise.
